I started writing article in late 2008. As of this writing I have close to over 300 articles on various sites. I have placed them on such sites as Ezine, Squidoo, Blogs, Hubs, etc.
I am going to tell you what I had to over come to be a successful article writer . Here are a list of items I had to over come .
- What will I write about? This is the first barrier to me writing articles. I could not think of anything to write about. Now it comes naturally. I will explicate how I did it.
- It takes to long to write an article. Now I can write one in 10 minutes. I will show you how .
- Quality over quanity . After I had chugged out over 300 articles, I went back and looked at some and they were junk. So I started going back to make them quality articles.
- Getting traffic. Writing an article is just 20% of the work you need to promote your site to get traffic. For example I wrote a blog, Fat Binders.org, in August and forgot about it. Now that I have rediscovered it, and started promoting it traffic is increasing. I will explain how I get traffic through : pinging, back links, keywords, etc
What To Write About ?
This is or was my major obstacle to overcome. It took me several months but I finally overcame it. I even found I could write about just about anything. Look around your office or the room you are in now. I am sure there are items right in front of you that you can write about.
As an example, in my office I have a paper shredder. Hey, I will right about the importance of shredding documents. But wherever do I get the information. A quick search of the Intenet using Google and keywords such as “Importance of Paper Shredding” 164,000 documents on the importance of paper shredding , about the right number .
Now you can read a few documents, take notes and then write an article in your own words. Cannot stress the importance in your own words !
Why your own words. Well for one thing most article publishers, Ezine, Hub, etc will reject your article and in some cases penalize you. By such action as banning you from their site. A second reason is if Google or other search engines see two or more articles of the same content, then your article will be placed low on search engine results.
Another example of finding something to write about. I have three cats what that I can write about. Well what do people want to know about in keeping cats. Well I have trouble with cat hairballs, how did I prevent them, I had trouble with clawing my furniture, how did I stop them from doing that. So I wrote several articles on preventing hairballs and stopping cats from scratching your furniture
This is just a few example of items you can right about. Some other items you can right about to supply information is your hobbies, your vacation, where you live, gardening, etc.
One Big Lesson Learned On How To Write Articles
Now once I had cranked out over 250 articles I found they were all over the place. What I determined what I needed to do was focus on one topic, write a major page on that subject and then write many articles on that subject, and then point these articles to your main page. ( called back links, more on this later)
It takes To Long To Write An Article
I struggled for hours and days to produce an article . Now I can write one in under 10 minutes if I want to . But now I in for quality over quanity now . More on this later. Now to write an article in 10 minutes or less here is the process.
- Pick a subject – lets say “4 Ways To Stop Cats From Scratching Your Furniture“
- list 4 methods
- loud noise
- tape ends of your furniture
- trim your cats claws
- use a cat scratchier such as Emery Cat
- Then elaborate on each method
- Write an opening paragraph and closing paragraph
- You have an article – to see an example using the same subject go to Stop Cat Scratching Your Furniture I used the above method and wrote this article in 10 minutes!!
Now for more information or examples of how to write a quick article you can go to Utube and do a search on writing rticles.
Quality Over Quantity
After writing hundreds of articles I was questioning why I was not getting the sales I expected. So I went back and reviewed some of them and asked myself would I do the next step after reading this. My answer in most cases was no.
Though I was able to write an article in less than 10 minutes, the quantity was there but the quality was gone. So I decided to take my time and put quality into it.
Taking my time, putting quality into it has greatly increased my click through rate. Plus it has given me satisfaction. Now instead of writing an article in less than 10 minutes, I write one now in about two hours.
Get Traffic!
Writing an article is 10 to 20 per cent of the work, the rest is getting traffic to your site. Here I will discuss how to get traffic to your site.
With these tools you should get good ranking on Google.
